In this scene from the movie “Dead Poets Society”, a teacher is attempting to teach his students about the dangers of conformity. The students unknowingly demonstrate the effects of conformity, and their innate desire to become like everyone else. This relates to Edna’s struggles against conformity and the expected norms of the society she lives in. She is similarly fighting to retain independence in a world where blending in is an appealing and comfortable prospect in a world of scrutiny and uncertainty.
